HEART OF TEXAS
SQUARE AND ROUND DANCE
HOT was organized in 1963 as the 16th member District of the Texas State Federation of
Square and Round Dancers. Charter member clubs were Square8s and Thunderbirds in Waco,
and the Hoedowners in Temple. Currently, we have 11 clubs in our Association.
Our clubs dance in Brownwood, Comanche, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Killeen, Speegleville,
and Temple. In 1974, a group in Waco built ALLEMANDE HALL in Speegleville and 5 clubs
currently dance there. The hall accommodates 20 squares. We have a Spring Fling Dance
annually in May where we install our new officers and an annual Cornhuskers Hoedown in August.
HOT does a lot of charity work including, Toys for Tots in each area, Shrine Hospitals, Teen
Scholarships, Muscular Dystrophy, and the Mexia State School where we have built a swimming
pool for therapy, a year round Camping Facility at Lake Mexia, and we do much more for them
Our publication is "THE MAVERICK" and is published quarterly. It is available free-of-charge
